GoHighLevel developer
Hire a GoHighLevel developerfor the work the builder can't do.
A GoHighLevel (GHL) developer writes the code behind API integrations, webhook endpoints, custom workflow steps and Marketplace apps. Scope Nine is a white-label engineering studio that does this work for marketing agencies.
Plenty of GHL work needs no code at all. You need a developer when the builder hits its limits. Common cases are two-way syncs, custom apps and workflows that fail without a trace.

Developer, VA or setup specialist?
People mix these titles up. Here is the plain difference.
| Role | Typical work | Hire one when |
|---|---|---|
| GHL VA | Data imports, pipeline updates, simple workflows | The job is repeat tasks in the builder |
| GHL setup specialist | Account setup, funnels, automations, snapshots | The account needs a sound setup |
| GHL developer | API integrations, webhooks, custom code, apps | The builder can't do it, or something fails silently |
A good VA saves you hours on repeat tasks. Many GHL setup specialists know the builder well. Neither usually writes code that moves client data between systems.
Our own GHL expert service is engineer-led and covers setup, automations and tracking. This page is for the jobs that need code.
When you need a GHL developer
- Custom code in workflows
- GHL's Custom Code action runs JavaScript inside a workflow. GHL's AI can draft that code, but GHL says to review and test it before going live. Test runs don't pass custom values, so a developer tests with realistic sample data.
- API integrations
- GHL's API v1 reached end of support on December 31, 2025. New builds use the current API and send Version: v3 on endpoints that list it. Each app gets 100 requests per 10 seconds and 200,000 a day for each sub-account. A developer plans queues and retries around those limits.
- Webhooks and two-way syncs
- Inbound webhooks start a workflow when another system sends data. Custom webhooks send data out. A two-way sync must also stop loops, catch duplicates and decide which system wins a conflict.
- Marketplace apps
- GHL's Marketplace lets you build public or private apps, with OAuth at sub-account or agency level. An app can add custom workflow actions and triggers that push or pull data.
- Custom objects
- Custom objects hold data that doesn't fit contacts, companies or opportunities, like properties or policies. They link to contacts, companies, opportunities and other objects. A developer designs the structure and syncs records through the API.
- Headless sites and front ends
- Some clients want their site on WordPress or Next.js, not a GHL funnel. We build those front ends and send their form leads into GHL.
- Broken workflows
- Workflows that fire twice, or not at all, cost clients leads. A developer reads the execution logs, finds the cause and fixes it at the source.
- AI agents that use outside data
- Voice AI and Agent Studio agents can call outside APIs. See our GHL AI agents page for that work.
To connect GHL with the other tools your clients use, see our GHL integrations page.
What to ask before you hire a GHL developer
- 01"What have you built on GHL's current API, and do you use v3?" GHL no longer maintains API v1, so new work built on it is a risk.
- 02"How do you handle rate limits?" A good answer mentions queues, retry delays and GHL's rate-limit headers. "We've never hit them" is not a plan.
- 03"What happens when a webhook fails or arrives twice?" A good answer covers logs, retries and duplicate checks. GHL retries failed app webhooks up to 12 times, so the same event can arrive twice. The code should store each webhook ID and skip repeats.
- 04"How do you test before launch?" A good answer covers failure paths, not just the normal flow. What happens when the other system is down?
- 05"Who owns the tokens and the code?" Tokens should sit in your account, with only the scopes the job needs. GHL recommends rotating Private Integration tokens every 90 days.
- 06"Do you bill hourly or by scope?" Hourly billing puts the risk of overruns on you. We price by scope, in writing, before work starts.
How Scope Nine works as your white-label team
Abdullah Sajjad, Scope Nine's founder, is a senior full-stack developer with Toptal Top 3% status. He has 8+ years of experience and 250+ delivered projects. His focus is WordPress, Next.js, GHL and HubSpot integrations, and API-driven automation.
We work inside your GHL agency account, your Slack and your project tool. By default your clients never see us. If you want us to talk to a client, we do it under your brand.
Free technical audit
Send one client sub-account or funnel URL. We review it by hand and send findings in 48 hours.
First sprint
One defined outcome, like an integration or a migration, from $999. You white-label the result.
Embedded Delivery Pod
If the work is good, we become your standing engineering arm across client accounts, from $4,000 a month.
Straight answers
- What does it cost to hire a GHL developer?
- We don't bill by the hour. The audit is free, sprints start at $999 and the Embedded Delivery Pod starts at $4,000 a month. We agree every price in writing before work starts.GHL bills its own fees separately, like charges for premium workflow actions.
- Do you work with the GHL developer API?
- Yes. We build on GHL's current API with OAuth apps or Private Integration tokens. We use Version: v3 where an endpoint supports it, and stay within GHL's rate limits. GHL also runs MCP servers that let AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT work with GHL data. See our GHL MCP guide. If an old integration still uses a v1 API key, we move it to a Private Integration token or an OAuth app.
- Can you write custom code inside GHL workflows?
- Yes. We write JavaScript for GHL's Custom Code action and test it with realistic sample data. For bigger jobs, a webhook or a Marketplace app is often the better tool.
- Can you build a GHL Marketplace app?
- Yes, public or private. A private app serves your own clients without a public listing.
- Will our clients know you exist?
- Only if you want them to. By default we work invisibly, inside your GHL agency account, your Slack and your project tool.
